ST AUGUSTINES NEWSLETTER IN ELECTRONIC FORM
Current Newsletter - November/ December 2009
In order to save the extensive printing costs, and due to the large number of parishioners who
have access to the Internet it has been decided to distribute future issues of the St
Augustines newsletter electronically. This page has been put together to answer some of
the questions you may have - and to help you download your first copy.
The first Electronic newsletter was July 2005's copy - this has also been distributed in paper form
to allow you to get used to the new distribution format.
Any other questions can of course be addressed to either the Church Office
or the Webmaster (Robert Ramsay) who can be contacted at
web_master AT staugustines DOT de
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: In what format will the newsletter be distributed?
Adobe's Portable Document Format - Better known as PDF
Q: Why don't you distribute it in <insert chosen format here>?
PDF has been chosen for a number of reasons. Firstly (and probably from your point of view, most importantly) the
reader (Adobe Acrobat) is free. Secondly, it doesn't matter whether the user is running Windows, Macintosh, Unix
or (practically) any other operating system and Thirdly, a PDF document is quick to download (they are usually a
factor of ten smaller than equivalent file formats).
Q: Are you going to distribute it in Microsoft Word format?
No.
Q: Ok, so what's with this Acrobat thingy - where do I get it?
It might already be installed on your computer - it comes pre-installed in many cases. Try downloading the
newsletter by clicking on the "Get Newsletter" below - If Acrobat is already installed then it will open automatically
in your browser and can be saved to disk or printed.
Q: No - tried that and it didn't work - what do I do now?
Get Acrobat from the download site by clicking on the graphic below.
Q: 26.8MB?!? That's huge - There's no way I am going to download that with my dialup modem
Fair point! Send an a mail to The Church Office or the
Webmaster (web_master AT staugustines DOT de), and we will do our best to get a CD to you.
Q: Aaaragh! Nothing works - I have been up all night, I am frustrated and I want this thing to work!
Don't panic! Get in contact with Church Office who will point you in the
direction of someone "in the know" or send an e-mail to the Webmaster who
will try and do the same.
Q: I've installed Acrobat! Where do I get the newsletter from?
