CELTIC JOURNEYS

A Musical Journey from the Old World to the New

Saturday, February 16th, 2008, 7:30 pm

Songs from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and America

Celtic Journeys - this programme is a musical journey from the Celtic folk traditions of Europe to a new, often similar but at the same time quite independent American folk music. Mezzo-soprano Jeanne Conard who comes from the United States but found her family firmly rooted in European soil, and her fellow musicians Frank Westphal (violoncello) and Len Killick (accordion) present a colourful programme that inspires with popular tunes and shows exciting connections between the different traditions. Songs such as "Wild Mountain Thyme", "Danny Boy" or "Clementine" are decidedly more-ish ? folk enthusiasts will be delighted!

Jeanne Conard was born in the United States but has been living in Europe for quite some time. Her repertoire includes many traditional folk songs as well as German, Polish or French art songs. She also performs music as varied as American gospel or Bach oratorios.

Frank Westphal, born in Tübingen, studied the cello and has toured Europe as a soloist and chamber musician as well as playing with orchestras. Nowadays his main job is teaching.

Len Killick is an Englishman who has grown up in the folksy tradition of his country. He plays several instruments but the accordion is his favourite. He has been living in Germany for more than 15 years now.
